A life that was close to idyllic changed when a young wife and mother of a university professor began experiencing troubling symptoms some thirty years ago. Eventually diagnosed with bi-polar depression, Ann Kochenberger maintained a journal in which she wrote during dark days. Writing helped her cope, kept her focused on what she was facing and how the future could be different if she were able to survive.
It was the "surviving" that she found most difficult, so Ann developed and employed a series of what she later termed her "coping strategies or coping devices" that she truly believes are the reason she was able to escape the persistent lure of suicide. |
